This project is a new public park that shelters three new performance venues along the Hudson River.
Heatherwick Studio built the 2.4-acre park in collaboration with New York-based landscape architects, MNLA and global engineering firm, Arup.
Designed as a haven for the people and wildlife of New York, it's a real green oasis, held above the water by sculptural planters in the form of "modular petals".
Little Island is located just a short walk across a gangplank from Manhattan's Lower West Side where visitors will walk past over 100 tree species planted throughout the park.
Judges comments: "Little Island is a striking and imaginative addition to New York, which adds to the social value of the city by creating a new gathering space for families to enjoy. There were some concerns about the sustainability of the project, considering the amount of concrete used, but the judges felt the innovation of creating a completely new landscape that hitherto did not exist should be commended."
