Interview with T.G.livable

What made you decide to become a designer?

During my school years, I attended art classes, which deepened my understanding of space. Encouraged by my teachers, I decided to pursue a major in interior design at university. This also prompted me to actively train my oral communication skills, whether it be delivering smooth presentations at school or confidently negotiating with clients in the future.

Can you tell us more about your design background? I progressed from the initial stages of general contracting to eventually becoming part of a professional design firm. On the business management front, I was fortunate to encounter someone who provided me with the right concepts, enabling me to learn resource utilization, financial management, and set goals for my future business endeavors.

How do you stay inspired and keep coming up with creative ideas? I often marvel at others' designs, wondering how they come up with such profound concepts. Whether it's practicality or psychological depth, their designs resonate with people's emotions. Therefore, I constantly absorb the energy of design, exploring construction techniques in-depth through reading and practice, such as edge finishing techniques and assembly methods. These experiences, dissected and digested, have shaped my current expertise.

What does good design mean to you? Because aesthetics vary from person to person, with accumulated experience, I strongly believe that aesthetic sensibility will naturally emerge. Therefore, I believe that excellent design lies in designers experiencing firsthand, reflecting deeply, and foreseeing the level of users' needs.

What is the most challenging thing in your profession? In my professional career, I haven't encountered many highly challenging situations because I view identifying problems as synonymous with solving them. This has always been my philosophy in serving clients, assisting them in resolving various issues related to renovations, big or small. Please, explain the best project you are most proud of and why. What I'm most proud of is the design of our office, which I've named "Tranquil." My goal was to create a serene and calm atmosphere, reminiscent of being in a foreign hotel. I always enjoy infusing new expectations into old spaces. When designing the space, I consider usability and guest flow, such as for meetings, coffee breaks, and restroom use. I also gather insights into clients' views on design details and their acceptance of material usage through interaction and feedback.

What is your biggest design career moment? How does this milestone impact your career? I enjoy receiving gratitude and feedback from homeowners after they actually move in and use the space. Such feedback touches me deeply and fills me with a sense of accomplishment in my design work, motivating me to continue dedicating myself to it.When I first entered this industry, I initially wanted to start from the construction side. However, senior designers offered me guidance, which helped me avoid many detours. I've been fortunate to have been guided in the right direction throughout my life. As I gradually execute my plans, there always seems to be someone to guide me. From being a general contractor who could draw, I gradually broke through the ranks to become a designer. Now, I'm a boss who needs to pay attention to marketing. All projects undergo rigorous review by me before final approval, earning recognition from reviewers.

How do you learn and grow your knowledge and design skills? I organize staff training sessions for all employees, including assistants and designers, where they engage in hands-on exercises. Through these training sessions, I encourage designers to actively participate in the design process and develop their ability to articulate project concepts and swiftly execute designs.

What would you say will be future of design? With the development of AI technology, what changes can we expect in the future real estate market? How can we adapt to these changes? As people's economic power increases, they will be more willing to undertake renovations. Modern individuals are exposed to a vast amount of renovation information, which also promotes the pursuit of aesthetics. As aesthetic standards rise, people will place more importance on careers related to aesthetics. What are your career plans for the future? My future career plan is to establish a platform centered around the company brand, creating a well-developed project acquisition process, and dedicating efforts to nurturing internal designers and enhancing business capabilities.
