What made you decide to become a designer?
Passion for beautiful things and how they are made. I loved imaging how images, design and tech can change the way people feel. Can you tell us more about your design background? 1991 BFA of Photography at Otis/Parsons School of Design. Learned from the ground up from photography to digital retouching to animation to 3d, to design. I had an an insatiable appetite for curiosity on how things are created, designed and produced. Found myself building teams, sharing and collaborating was the magic of how to be successful in the arts and media.
How do you stay inspired and keep coming up with creative ideas? Traveling, learning new things and interests. Meeting people from all walks of life. Whether you are talking to a mechanic, to eating dinner with celebrities, you learn non stop. Nature has also played a massive role on keeping creativity alive.
What does good design mean to you? Should delight, provoke, inspire and challenge you. Should be remembered.
What is the most challenging thing in your profession? Working with entitled or aggressive people. Educating clients in the value of design. Good, fast, cheap; pick two.
Please, explain the best project you are most proud of and why. Honestly, Every single one i have worked on. From launching Harry Potter on the internet 20 years ago to the first immersive 3d fullscreen online game for Coca Cola to creating the first AR mobile game with Rockem Sockem to creating The Sunset Strip Music Festival. Every one is my favorite of over 500 projects.
What is your biggest design career moment? How does this milestone impact your career? Waking up recently realizing that my work has touched billions of people. :-)
How do you learn and grow your knowledge and design skills? I learn from following the best out there and how they think, work and design. I am always inspired by creativity in design, tech, music and culture.
What would you say will be future of design? A fusion of analog techniques, digital and now machine learning. What are your career plans for the future? Keep smiling and solving design challenges where I can. Help others, uplift innovate and inspire.
