A network of 38 intersecting cones of different heights creates an oasis of calm and relaxation with an iconic external appearance. As a gesture to the host country, the architecture begins a dialogue with the Arab building tradition of wind towers and re-interprets it.
The use of traditional Arabic building principles and state-of-the-art building physics modeling provides a comfortable atmosphere which dispenses with conventional air conditioning and therefore makes a positive contribution to the global energy topic. A holistic approach that considers local circumstances, building materials as well as modern construction methods saves a considerable amount of energy compared to a conventional building of a similar size.
By creating an iconic design and contemplative spaces addressing all the visitors’ senses, the pavilion emotionally connects people to the building and strengthens the desire to preserve the pavilion and thus prolong its lifespan.
Constructed as a puzzle, the design of the pavilion’s main structure uses only eight different prefabricated parts. As they are easily dismountable after the EXPO the building can be re-erected at a new location in new composition.
